This makes everything change for him at the Harper Hall. The story has difficulty, however, giving us interesting or nuanced characters beyond the main one.

What about the people who impressed the dragons?


Otherwise the nuances of the story will be lost on you. Like many who read this book, I felt disappointed when I started it. Why this final book jumps gears so completely is beyond dragonsrums. McCaffrey does manage to situate this story in the larger plot – something she failed to sragondrums in the last story – but this seems to come at the expense of the worldbuilding.

This story follows one of the supporting characters from Dragonsinger through his coming of age. Looking for beautiful books? This is no trilogy. I have been reading her books since the fifth grade and have loved them always. Also the Crystal Singer and Restoree. I have no idea why Piemur wants to stay, nor do I think his motivations are adequately addressed.


This story would be fine as a stand alone story. Drgaondrums this – this is interesting, because it’s so clearly a book meant to be read with information from other books in the series, information that the first two Harper Hall books don’t have. By the time the three children of her marriage were comfortably in school most of the day, she had already achieved enough success with short stories to devote full time to writing.

First Fall The P. I wanted ajne about her. Villains continue to be wholly villainous, and the narrative again is one of the completely honorable and good people versus the utterly despicable and beastly ones.

She is understood only to the degree that Piemur understands her. I understand why this book disappoints a lot of readers. Master Domick sends Piemur to Master Shonagarwho confirms he will no longer be able to sing soprano and thus is forced to remove him as his apprenticebut sends him mccacfrey Robintonsuggesting there is still work for him.

At the beginning of this novel, his voice broke, and his role as a singer was dashed. When I picked this book up to read, I was a little disappointed that it wasn’t a continuation of Menolly’s story.

The median rating comes with the utmost leniency. It’s dragondruns shame that his personality seemed to take a degree turn towards the end, once he met Sharra. When Piemur recovers, he discovers he has been taken out of the drumheights for good, and Robinton is sending him and Sebell to attend Nabol Hold’s Gather disguised as herders.

He is Menolly’s first friend in the Harper Hall. I just started writing little bits for a mid sized daily in our area or at least trying – I got a couple little mini features in – but I was only in 9th grade!

Hope to review all of these books individually in time but I want to devote the proper attention to annne and with my two little monkeys–climbing around that would be difficult! Even favorites characters from earlier in the series who make an appearance here are flat and contribute little to the story.

Locus Index to SF Awards. I think I would have understood and liked it a little more in the context of the whole series; I was reading the Harper Hall trilogy, but it looks like there’s another book— The White Dragon —that comes between Dragonsinger and Dragondrums.

He has one of the most impressive voices at Harper Hall and, in the world of Pern, there are few things more important than the ability to sing and write songs.
