Still, to some these qualities are endearing—especially to the Maharani living with her adopted daughters in the crumbling mansion next door. I liked the descriptions of food, little details of life in a few different places in India, mainly Bombay, but, I just never engaged with the narrator, and found it hard to convince myself he was an eight year old boy.
Maybe it was because I found the ending a bit flat, it just all sort of petered out. Beeach review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. I could put it down and not think about it or care about it for weeks. Nothing really happens and the story is so fluid that I didn’t get emotionally attached to the characters, but the descriptions and the atmosphere are beautiful and truly evocative.

Beach Boy is a intriguing story about a young boy living in india. This book does the chaos of Bombay tremendous justice – it encapsulates the melodramatic and likely dubious quality of growing up surrounded by so many people with flair and humour.
Seemed like a complicated book with relationship ups and downs with small erotic accounting casually thrown here and there. That’s not typical for me.
