All in all this is a fascinating book, a bbuch at recent history that reaches back to World War II, and also has great relevance for today. The Filmbewertungsstelle WiesbadenGermany’s national agency which evaluates movies on their artistic, documentary and historical significance, gave the movie the rating “especially valuable. The film is based on the German best selling non-fiction book of the same name by Stefan Aust.
In short, a very charismatic leader – Koomplex Baader – met Gudrun Ensslin – a preacher’s daughter – and gelled together politically and as lovers. Did they in fact allow the guns that killed some of the prisoners to be imported? This could easily have been a long and riveting mini-series. Authoritarian society is matched by the authoritarian leadership of the R. While the plan called for Meinhof to look like an innocent journalist caught in a prison break, she flees with Baader and Ensslin, thereby incriminating herself in the murders of an unarmed civilian and two policemen.

Ensslin makes the same prediction to the prison chaplain and claims that the West German Government is about to murder her and her imprisoned comrades. The reader hardly needs a word-for-word and minute-by-minute account of minor details. The film was subsidized by several film financing boards to the sum of EUR 6. A chapter might be two pages about a person who gets mentioned once probably five pages earlier and then not mentioned again.

The great book on the history of the RAF is still waiting to be written. The review website Rotten Tomatoes reported that 87 percent of critics gave the film positive write-ups based upon a sample of 83 with an average score of baadee. In the end, it chose to operate in its own extreme political spectrum, and the legacy it left behind is one of murder and oppression rather than freedom and understanding. The actions that the R. Meingof leads to the most interesting question raised by the book — what is the limit of personal convictions? But then, Baader is arrested. It all ends in tragedy, and death with many unanswered questions.
